Ariston AWD12 Margherita. heater replacement?

There is no heat on the drier cycle. I have got the back off and accessed the terminals to the heater. There is no circuit so I assume it has failed. (there is a circuit between the wires to it even though the machine is OFF and disconnected from the mains. I assume this is OK) How do I get the old element out?
