This is going to require a trip to Renault to have them put it on their diagnostic computer. it sounds like a faulty sensor on the steering column, but they will be able to confirm it.
Prepare yourself for a charge of around £75 for the honour of them telling you the problem.
What I would do is have a word with a mechanic round the back of the workshop, grab their attention and ask them if they know how to cure the problem. Alot of them fix cars at home and you may strike lucky and one of them will sort it out for you at home. It will save you paying Renault!
