You have to move the top of the power-mate cover up and slightly back (once you have released the two press-in catches) to free it from the two little hook-like areas in back. It is a bit tricky, but once you do it a few times, you will get the hang of it. To replace the cover, repeat the steps in reverse.
If your problem is in removing the brush roller, it is made so that the ends fit into grooves on each side. The side where the bristles are farthest from the end is the side that the belt goes onto.
