Mend Vauxhall Vectra Rpm

My 96 P reg Vauxhall Vectra also keeps revving high randomly?

It will rest at 1000rpm which is correct i think but then it sometimes revs up and down between 1000rpm and 2000rpm without me touching the throttle. Personally i think i may have bought a lemon but if it can be sorted by me i'll be happy. Cheers

Hello the engine speed of your car should be between 820 and 980 rpm.
Idle air control valve
Engine coolant temperature sensor
Engine control module
one of these will be your problem.
Would need to know engine size to let you know the extracting guide for checking the sensors.
