how do i change the heater matrix in an escort van?

how do I change the heater matrix in a 1995 1.8 diesel escort van? I have been told that in earlier models you can get to the matrix through the glove box, but in later models the whol dash board has to be removed. I dont know if this is correct or whether a 1995 model is an "early or later model".
