Renault Scenic runs ok until the temp gauge reaches normal working temp, ?

I have a 1999 2 litre petrol Renault Scenic, it starts fine and runs ok until the temp gauge reaches normal working temp, the engine powers dies , if you dip the clutch a rev the engine it starts pulling again . I put a new battery in the car and this solved the problem for about 5 weeks but the problem has returned.
