Mend Mountfield Replaced High Low

THROTTLE SPRINGS ON MOUNTFIELD 460?

I have recently replaced the diaphragm on my Mountfield 460SP as it was revving high then low. I seem to have replaced it ok, but putting the springs back is a little bit harder. Does anyone know where I can find any info on the correct spring setup? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Phil, Thanks for the help. I have put the springs in place and now on the little plastic v shaped thing on the carb, there are two little holes that the wire can fit in. Does the wire go to number 1 or 2? Does it matter? Does it need to be in a certain position before fitting the wire back in? Thanks again.

OK - assuming that this is a variable speed engine (IE it has an operator controlled speed lever), the longer spring goes from the loop in the link wire to the hole at the outer end of the moving speed control lever. The shorter spring goed from the loop on the link to a fixed position hole in the bracket that the spped assembly is mounted on. Both springs must NOT be twisted after fitting, and the linkage must move FREELY. Engine will overspeed if the linkage is sticky.

Drop me a line if you need further guidance - I'll try to get a picture.

I also have small black rounded rubber washer about the size of a two pence piece leftover. Do you know where this goes? Thank you.

Sorry, It has two springs. One appears to be shorter than the other.

Hi, Thank you for your reply. Yes it is a carb on tank set up and was advised to remove the tank as well. I needed to unclip the wire to remove the tank and whilst cleaning the springs came off. Many thanks.

Is this a B&S 'carb-on-tank' engine? Shouldn't have needed to touch the govenor springs, but if they're now off the engine, need to know if there are 1 or 2 springs. Reply on this thread - will advise.
