renault laguna hazard light problem?

i have a 2002 renault laguna II. The hazard lights wont turn off, no matter how many times i push the hazard button, they wont turn off unless i put something heavy on it or tape it down. if i put something heavy on it to keep it from flashing, is it going to cause a problem? any idea what is causing the problem or how much it would cost to fix?
