how can i fix my toilet flush?

It has come apart. (Ok- yes we had a party...) I have refitted the pipe to the push button but I dont know how to fit the other end of it. Does it go somewhere inside the vertical thing that goes up and down?
Pictures would be very helpful ! Thank you. Claire
