how to tighten handbrake?

i have loose hand break on ford mondeo 2003 how do i tighten this hand break

if you look where the handbrake is, in between the handbrake is a plastic cover which you can prise out with long fingernails or screwdriver. once removed you should see a 8 or 10mm locknut. tighten this only slightly and check your handbrake. you should have between 5 to 7 clicks which is what it will pass on for mot.ONLY TIGHTEN SLIGHTLY. TURN 1/4 OF A TURN THEN CHECK THE CLICKS. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN AS YOU MAY SNAP THE CABLE!!!.
