I assume it's that smell inhibitor and pan cleaner plastic container you refer to!.
I hope its clear now but you have what I call the 'Full monty' blockage.
Your first thing to do is to find and lift the lid on the manhole that takes the waste. If it's full then the blockage is in the out flow to either next manhole or street sewer and the plastic container is probably in the water trap bend [stops the stink coming back]. Drain rods are difficult and sometimes impossible to push through this bend but you may be lucky and fish the container using the worm end of the rod set. When connecting rods tight tape the brass joints together to prevent unscrewing and never turn them anti-clockwiser always turn them clockwise.
If the manhole is clear then you may be able to plunge the blockage clear using the rubber disc on a rod again tape that joint and turn clockwise only. First put something down the in to the invert at the outflow end of the manhole to catch the plastic, ok there will be waste to sort the plastic container out of but it's better than letting in flow down into the outlet trap. To help break up the waste to almost liquid form pour a strong mix of caustic soda and hot water down in to the toilet pan but wear rubber gloves as wet hands and caustic soda don't go together you'll get soda burns. If you have two manholes [usually on a turn in pipework] and its out flow to sewer bail the blocked one out pouring it into the empty manhole.
