replace Ariston eurocombi A23 diverter valve?

Is this really neccessary, full replacement rather than just replace the diaphragm? im being quoted for parts and labour £360,(speedy in motherwell)
Problem was the hot water only works when the central heating is on, microswitch on the assembly is ok, if you press it manually, then hot water comes on.

replacing the diverter valve or the diaghpram is very easy no more than 20 minute job easy diy infact replacing most part are straight forward on the euro combi once you know the problem

£360 quoted is a disgrace! It sounds to me your dhw diaphram has possibly split. supply and fit should be no more than £100 max, 30mins job. whole new divertor valve very unlikely to be needed.trust me Iam an approved ariston engineer!

oh and by the way, the diverter valve is only about £100 to buy and about 2 hours labour!! wish i was on £125 an hour!!!

i was told the same for my boiler!! what with me being a tight *rs* i got a diaphram from ebay for it and fitted it. easy enough to do too... and it worked..
yes the professionals know what there doing and i dont want to take work away from them but spending £10 on ebay might save you £350!!. if it doesnt work then uve only lost a tenner eh??
then you call the men in the know!!

if you want to replace the water section yourself then do it, if however you want to pay a professional to do it who has had years of expierience and no doubt spent a fortune on training etc and also has a business to run then pay him, but dont come on here complaining about a quote which seems fair to me. after all im sure we wouldent question your profession....would we ? and by the way it is good practice to replace the whole thing this cures any future faults with other parts of the unit.
