I'll tell you exactly what it is, had the same problem.. its your ignition coil pack. Just replaced mine.. only £40 for the pack.. fitting it is as easy as removing the old one (3 star screws) and screwing the new one on.
Simple.. good luck

Don't go to Renault for the spares they will be mega £'s !! try www.gsfcarparts.com or www.eurocarparts.com they sell the original parts or direct equivelants at a price thats sensible!!!! and they have outlets around the country if you don't want to do delivery charges! Chicksfan has given you a link to go to but basically you have to remove the plastic cover on the top of the engine this will reveal a space between the two camshafts and that's where the spark plugs sit and on top of them is the "pencil coils"
im really not very good with cars can anybody tell me where the pencil coil can be found and how much is a replacement please thank you both for your promt replies

one or more of the pencil coils has failed and the "knock" sensor has picked this up and put on the EML
