grandfather clock?

i over wound my clock and dont have weight that drop and rings 8 times when it says 7 how do i fix this

I don't think it is possible to overwind a grandfather clock. I had a problem with mine not chiming. I took the front off and made it chime manually by turning the wheel. This not only brought the chime weights down, but after I had done this it chimed by itself. It happened again a few days later and I repeated the operation. it has worked fine since then

I disagree with the previous answer. The reason is that I have a clock. There are three weights. The heaviest is in the middle (you can't mistake where they go because with a bit of luck two weights will have a hook and one won't).

Your weights on the right and left will not come down unless the chimes work. You need to find the reason the chimes are not operating. Check the weights to insure the heaviest weight is on the right as you look at the clock. Also check the silent lever normally located beside the "3" on the dial. Sometimes people mistakenly turn the chimes off.
