Mend Dyson DC04 Power Switch

How can access the power switch encloser on Dyson DC04?

How is the on/off switch assembly removed from the dyson DC04 vacum cleaner, to enable a new power cord to be installed?

Hey - no need to drill a thing!!!

Here's what you do. There's a simple tool you make using a screw driver bent at 45 degrees and a slot at the inside of the switch which you slip the tool in to depress the plastic catch holding the button. Then the switch pops out, you can then access and unscrew the retaining philips screw and the switch unit slips out. Here's the link with diagrams:

This was a good start there are pictures of the button on the following site which helped me. I used an allen key and jewelers small screw driver to act as a lever to ping the catch from then on very easy.

lol @ drilled holes in the button
the Dyson dco4 power button has a small hole which houses a star (*) screw to undo this you can also use a small sized flat head screw driver, once un'done just lift the button out and there you have access to the blue and brown wire 1 of which has probaly disconnected as it has done with mine several times due to girl firend over stretching the wire i hope this was of help ( i have now left the screw out so i can have easy access.

www.dyson-online.com has good step-by-step instructions illustrated with photos.

However, I found it very difficult to release the latch that allows removal of the plastic switch button. In the end, instead of the suggested bent screwdriver, I used a thin kitchen knife (an old one) on which I bent the pointed tip (with pliers). I then slid the knife down the side of the switch housing with the bent tip away from the switch, so the blade slipped past the latch.

Now all I had to do was lift the plastic switch cover to remove it - except that there's almost nothing to grip on. So I drilled small holes in the front and back of the switch cover, inserted a small screwdriver in each and with a little upwards pressure the cover popped off. BTW don't worry about drilling the holes in the switch cover (unless you're worried about its appearance) as the switch itself is recessed in the housing and you won't damage it.

After that the instructions at www.dyson-online.com give you the rest.
