www.dyson-online.com has good step-by-step instructions illustrated with photos.
However, I found it very difficult to release the latch that allows removal of the plastic switch button. In the end, instead of the suggested bent screwdriver, I used a thin kitchen knife (an old one) on which I bent the pointed tip (with pliers). I then slid the knife down the side of the switch housing with the bent tip away from the switch, so the blade slipped past the latch.
Now all I had to do was lift the plastic switch cover to remove it - except that there's almost nothing to grip on. So I drilled small holes in the front and back of the switch cover, inserted a small screwdriver in each and with a little upwards pressure the cover popped off. BTW don't worry about drilling the holes in the switch cover (unless you're worried about its appearance) as the switch itself is recessed in the housing and you won't damage it.
After that the instructions at www.dyson-online.com give you the rest.
