I closed the stop tap controlling flow from my loft cold water tank to fix a leaking shower tap. Now it won't open. Is there any way of freeing it without draining the tank and replacing the tap?
Remove the crutch wheel or handle from the valve spindle (either a screw for a stop-cock or a nut for a gate valve) and use an adjustable wrench on the flats which are machined on the spindle. Anti-clockwise to open of course.
