well Mark, everything worked as you said it would, untill I hit the subtotal key after hitting the cash key...got the dreaded E1 error

Ok. This machine has had massive RAM corruption then. I would suspect it has not been used enough to keep the battery charged, or it has a faulty battery.

To fully clear all programming from the machine:

Insert the key marked 'C'.
Turn one position past P (hidden mode).
Turn power off at wall
Hold 00 button down.
Turn on at wall.
Wait for print.

The machine will have returned to the factory default settings now, so the keyboard will be laid out as in the example in the user manual.

If you had any special programming that is not in the default settings, then you will have to re-program these areas.
