how does one fix a fridge shelf when the tabs keep breaking?

Hotpoint HUL1611. we have got through 2 complete replacement shelves, having glued and bodged them many times. The problem is, the design. The plastic tabs break off meaning the shelf wont fit any longer. Look up this shelf on amazon, where it gets a really bad press, and you'll know why i dont want to pay £20+ for a replacement. I sooner buy a new fridge. can anyone come up with a fix?

We have a beko freezer TZSB492 with the same problem.
Have traced the cause to ice build-up between the evaporator and the plastic trim. This forces the part forewords and eventually snaps it in two. wondering wether to fill the space with silicon sealer to stop the ice getting in when i replace the part for the fourth time ?

Look on Amazon and you will see that these shelves have the worst review rating I've ever seen. Two ways to cure - make a shelf out of perspex. Hacksaw to size and finish the edges with sandpaper. 6mm perspex should be ok, in whatever colour you like. Don't choose the very flexible thin acrylic. Or do what I did - go down the local dump and find some wire, plastic or glass shelves that are a near fit. I got some glass shelves from an Electrolux. Much better made. Tight fit, but do the job and they've already lasted three years. The originals lasted a year. just long enough to be out of guarantee.

I have the same problem with Beko shelves. I have now had 6 shelves. The average number of items on the shelf is 3 to 4 when they break, creating mess, chaos and cut fingers. I bought this fridge in 2006 and have had 6 replacement shelves but am now expected to pay almost £20 for replacements. I contacted Currys where I bought the fridge and they said I needed to get an engineers report and they would reimburse me if a fault was found. Trading standards confirmed this is acceptable practice (even though as single mum of 3 on a low income I could not come up with the initial cost). They also confirmed that you have 7 years after purchase to get a refund if you can prove the item bought is not fit for purpose. Recently my partner moved in and trying to fit enough food for 5 people in the fridge with only one door shelf was a nightmare, so I bit the bullet and got the report done for £58 and they confirmed there is a design fault. I have sent this with the receipt, a photo of the mess caused when one of the shelves broke and the report to Currys customer services, asking for a new fridge ( not Beko). I have said I will not trust any new shelves and the ones I have had have come from different batches and have all broken in the same place on the same side. I do not want any more broken jars and glass on my floor! I will keep you posted as to the outcome. Michelle

use the front runners on the broken shelves, on front and back of the glass. Ours is holding up this way at the moment!

Make plywood shelf to same size. Cut big rectangular hole in centre. Glue glass over hole as stiffener. Make rude gesture to Hotpoint.

Very interesting that you can actually buy replacement shelves - perhaps they were expecting a few to fail?
