My 1999 Megane had a starting problem. The battery was fine all the electrics work and the starter turned over fine, but didnt start.
The problem was a small sensor over the fly wheel. Very simple job to unbolt it a quick wipe and clean then back on, only took about 15 minutes. How the car works fine no problems.
(As you look at the engine the sensor is on the right hand side under the top air filter, directly above the fly wheel)

It might be a bit too late now but maybe it'll help someone else. Crank shaft sensor... From about September last year I had an intermittent problem on my 1998 Megane 1.4e, the immobiliser was working fine but for some reason it just wouldn't start every time, was ok if i could bumb it down a hill. replaced battery an sparkplugs, to no avail, tried an auto electrician but he reckoned if the computer didn't show up any fault then there was little he'd be able to do without going over everything with a fine toothe comb and it would cost big time. In the end i moved house, to a flat street with little hope being able to bumb start given the number of speed bumps. anyhow got the RAC out after Id melted the starter motor tryin to get past a speed bump.. cost 50 quid to replace starer but he also showed me where the crank shaft sensor is.. looking down at my megane engine bay there's a wire (black - about the same thickness as a portable cd player power cord) its located on the right hand side of the engine - mid way down, underneath where the HT cables are all bunched together comin from the spark plugs and about the same height as the top of the starter motor. This wire appears to just enter the side of the engine and dissappear. When the RAC chap moved this wire it caused the engine to stall. I guess this problem is only intermittant because bumps etc are causing a bad connection. whenever my car doesn't start now I just flip bonnet, wiggle wire and it starts every time. I know I should just replace the sensor/wiring loom but times are hard... and now my immobilzer is on the blink...eek. I have the radio code is this the same code that overides the Immobilzer?

If you used the car regular for the two weeks and the battery IS flat then as Linz says you appear to have a charging problem. So charge up again [flat ones usually take 48hrs] and get it to the shop you bought the battery from and tell them you think the battery is faulty, they should come out if you're parked outside with a tester which will show up where the fault lies. However if the battery is not flat then have you secured all leads removed? is one off/loose? Did the plugs used have pre-set gaps in their points? Remove one plug and check the gap against your handbook/workshop manual details. Check the plugs are tight and have not worked loose. even one loose one can prevent an engine from starting.

For reference a slow turning starter can give the impression a battery is flat [I had this on my Cortina] It turned out that the starter was taking the usual power from the battery needed to turn the engine over but because of and internal fault did not produce the power in torque the other end so giving the impression of a flat battery. It doesn't say this is your problem but it's something to hold on to for ideas.

Is it turning over at all ? Do lights etc work ? If the battery is flat again it could be because its not being charged. Possibly a faulty alternator if thats the case.
