Mend Renault Grand Scenic Rear

renault scenic brakes?

just changed the brake pads front and rear on my grand scenic, now the brakes feel really spongy. I don't see how it could be air because I did not brake into the system at any point, just squeezed the pistons back into the calipers. What could it be?

Hi Paul
I have the same problem. I have just replaced the front brake pads in my son in laws 05 Renault Grand Scenic and the brakes seem spongy. Like you I did not break into the system so it could not be air nor did I damage any hoses. My son in law says thay are perfect. Resevoir is full. I have always done my own brakes over the years with no problems but never on a renault. The brakes are effective but they just feel spongy. Any views

Hi Paul,
as you say you havn't broken into the hydraulic system at any point, just check to make sure you havn't accidentily nicked any hoses. Also check your brake fluid resevoir,if you've fitted new pads all around, this will have pushed the pistons back in the calipers and consequently you could find your brake fluid resevoir is now above the full mark..New pads will take a few miles to "bed in" anyway so wont feel quite so positive, though I wouldn't call it "spongy"?
