How to splice or repair torn cassette tape?

Is there a way to splice or repair a torn cassette tape? It was caught around the little wheel in the cassette player and I had to cut the tape to remove it. Years ago there WERE splicing tape kits for this purpose.

I have always just used ordinary cellophane tape. I overlap the two ends of recording tape and take a fresh biased cut across both so that the ends will butt up against each other neatly. Then I place one end so that it lays about half way across a clean piece of cellophane tape. Then I match the other end up so that there is only one layer of tape over the cellophane. Then I take scissors and trim the edges of the cellophane that stick out above and below the tape. Also it is better if you first use scissors to cut the cellophane tape rather than using the serrated cutter on the dispenser.

I have used super glue spread very thinly on about an inch at the end of the broken tape and then overlap the other broken end onto the glue. Overlapping the ends about one to two inches seems to work.

Try to find film splicing tape, if finely trimmed, it will work sufficiently.

I was trying to solve the same problem and came across this:

However, they don't say what kind of adhesive tape to use.

Radio Shack stopped stocking the repair kits in 2001, the lady told me.
