alternator problem?

hi,it,s much the same as the question that has already been answered.been quoted £200 + for new alternator ..could i strip & repair it myself,in the past i have stripped down & repaired starter motors no problem.i know it,s a lot more difficult than a starter motor .but, if i had the new parts i.e regulator,brushes etc it would be a lot cheaper than £200 ...where would i get the various parts though???
