Mend Renault Scenic Key Working

Key Fob not working. Any ideas?

I own a 1998 Renault Scenic which can only be started after the imput of a four digit code. My key fob will not work even after tying to recode it. Is there any chance of buying a new fob and bringing it to a main dealer to recode. My Renault dealer is looking for €197.00 for a new one and recoding?
