which gearbox to buy?

Hi everyone.Please help me out..
I have a Honda civic Hatchback 1.4le 1998 R reg with a packed up gearbox.. my problem is that I have seen so many 1.4 gear boxes but none of them match with my box number ,even though from the outside it looks the same like the mount, link selectors all that. So my question is when buying and replacing a gearbox do I need to go with the same gearbox which matchers the serial nu or any 1.4 which look the same...
ill be very much grateful if anybody can give me an answer

These have phone number's you can call for advice, Everytime i,ve had a gearbox done i,ve just given the supplier the model, make, engine size and year and had no problem,s.

Thanks for taking some time to answer i very much appreciate it but I was told by few people if you don’t find the same there will be slight difference in the dimensions/drive shaft lengths etc...That’s why I’m really worried and if you know once you buy it that’s it no going back... 99% of them don’t refund your money...would you recomend to go for any 1.4 which looks the same.

You will be waiting a long time to find a gearbox with the same serial number..... If you think about it logically, if you went somewhere that sold reconditioned box,s would they turn you away or would you get one with a different serial number off the shelf ?
