no ignition no spring back after position 2?

ive got a 52 zafira 1.8 16v auto. my wife turned the key in the ignition didnt start. but after position 2 to crank nothing happened. then when you remove the key ignition lights stayed on even when you remove the key from the ignition. what do you think it could be
