how do i change rear wheel bearing on my 2004 rwd with abs its single wheel lwb 2.4 ive been told its abig job and have to undo diff pan undo 2bolts and then other bolt which holds inner bearing cover then strip rear brakes then pull half shaft out tap bearing off to fit new bearig tap bearing on tappered shaft and heat it up so when it cools it shrinks and keeeps bearing in place ? how true last bit is i dont know im also finding it difficult to get right bearing kit my tranny is 2.4duratoque lwb single wheel rwd with abs 90 bhp minibus cheers ian
REMOVE REAR DIFF COVER. UNDO 8MM BOLT ON THE PIN THAT GOES THROUGH THE PLANET WHEELS. REMOVE THE CENTRE PIN BUT DO NOT ROTATE EITHER HALFSHAFT WITH THIS PIN OUT OTHERWISE THEY WILL FALL OUT. SLIGHTLY PUSH HALFSHAFT INWARDS. YOU WILL SEE A CLIP ON THE END OF THE HALFSHAFT. REMOVE THIS THEN THE SHAFT WILL BE FREE TO BE PULLED OUT OF THE AXLE TUBE. YOU'L THEN COME TO THE HUB SEAL WHICH CAN NOT BE REMOVED WITHOUT DESTROYING IT. THEN YOU'L GET TO THE BEARING.REMOVE THIS.REPLACE WITH NEW BEARING/NEW HUB SEAL AND REFIT EVERYTHING IN REVERSE ORDER.

concise.apart from applying heat to a new bearing.kinda think that would destroy any material hardness and wreck the new bearing.not to mention that u usually need a slide hammer to remove the halfshaft.have to reccomend a garage for this job.
