washing too hot to take out of washing machine + Why?

My Bosch washing machine has developed a problem.
When I use my normal 40 degree wash with a spin of 400 when the washing programme has finished when I open the machine door they is lots of steam coming out and the washing is too hot for me to take out using my hands. The programme I used to wash the clothes was a coloured wash at 40 degrees so why is my washing so hot? Any advice please. Thank you.
