We have the same problem as you have, we found out it needs a small nylon bit which attaches the engine and the vibrating pad. We have been told by Black & Decker here in Adelaide, Australia, that they are discontinued.

sounds like the coupling between motor & base is shot part not in stock any more fore that model. had same problem ,clean out hole in base & motor shaft put light coat of oil on shaft ,acts as bond breaker, next fill hole with standerd mix j b weld asm unit & set it aside fore 3 or 4 days. hope you have the results i did.
