How can I take out a sliding Patio Door?

My Patio door was installed about 4 years ago by St Helens Glass. To open and close the door is now a major operation. It slides back about 18 inches and then won't move, it has to be lifted and pulled. To close it I have to put all my weight behind it. I need to take the door out to inspect the bottom of the door and also the rail on which it runs. The runner. near to the jamb has been scored by something under the door. With help I have tried to lift the door out of the frame, which proved imposssible. Do I have to remove the double-glazing unit first and if so how do I go about it ?

sounds like you have a bow in the bottom of your runner. as shaun said just try adjusting the height of the door first by turning the screw (you will need a long reach phillips screwdriver)

at bottom of the slider there is a small gromet on each edge, take out these gromets and inside you will see a screw, usually slotted but not always, use a screwdriver and turn anti-clockwise on both and it will lower your slider alowing your door to be lifted out,you may have to replace your rollers as this sounds like your problem, after you have replaced them make sure you adjust your door using same method but this time turning clockwise, also some patios have anti lift blocks in head above slider,if your have them take them out or your slider wont come out and replace them when job is done, hope this helps

Usually they lift and pull the bottom towards you to clear the runner/.kicker.where most get it wrong is they dont realise just how bl**dy heavy these are.I'm 6 2' and stronger than most and i can only just remove them on my own.maybe 50 kilo's.
