How can I fix my toilet - Mansfield #160?

3 toilet gaskets failed at the same time- difficult to flush. Actual repair time literally 10 min for all 3. But - only one did not leak. Followed the advice for turning the seal on the other 2 toilets - all is well. Watched the you tubes - Thanks you all.

Woo-oo. I have fiddled on and off with this new seal for 2 days. Spinning it in the groove did the trick. Thank you Thank you.

replace the red seal is correct just do this one little thing and you will have no leaks once you replace the red seal just give it a spin or two around the groove it sits in the seal should be loose in a way not tight if the seal is tight it will cause the seal to bend slightly and leak there is a groove the seal sits in therefore spin the seal around several times until it seats properly may seam a little loose thats perfect

It's June 2012 and this fix still does the job. When I stopped by the HD, they said they didn't have the part, but they did for $1.78! It was sold under Fluidmaster Part #88096. In fine print, it said fits Mansfield #210, #211. Thank all of you for saving me $300+! It did take awhile finding this site, and then piddling with the toilet, but it worked!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have been through 2 flush levers and tried to rig up some things with brass chains to make my Mansfield 160 flush. It just kept getting harder and harder to flush. After reading this and watching the little video I spent $1,75 and 10 minutes and it works! =) What a relief. Thanks to everyone for putting this here. U R AWESOME

the red flush valve seal has gone down to the bottom groove. Just went through this with my 160. Remove the hose from the top of the fill tube. It just pulls out. The top (where the hose goes in) unscrews. then pull up the outside of the flush valve. There are two grooves where the red seal sits. Yours has gone to the bottom groove. It should be around the top one. You probably should replace it with a new seal, but I didn't have to. It even quit leaking into the bowl.

well i'll be damned. thankfully i found this thread because the $2 seal was all i needed. said it was for the 210 model but works great on a 160.

i now see why it was so hard to flush. the old seal becomes misshaped and the flush valve forms a tight seal when in the closed position. it should be resting on top of the seal instead. thanks random people of the internet!

I broke 3 levers trying to fix this problem. My toilet (8 year old Mansfield 160) has been out of commision for 2 weeks. Found this forum today, went to home depot (got the flush valve seal that says it fits Mansfield 210 & 211 for $2) and easily fixed it 10 minutes thanks to the link to the video posted; http://www.griggindustries.com/ and this thread. First let me say you guys rock! I have three Mansfield Model 160. All with the same issue. The video is awesome! I found the replacement seals at home depot for $1.78. Box says fit Mansfield 210/211. same as mansfield website. Thank you!

All are correct. Can get the flush value seal at Lowe's. My local THD didn't have it. Note that when you install the new one, it MUST line up with the first ridge of the lower flush value mechanism. If you don't do this correctly, the toilet with run on as the seal will have a slight leak. Can twist around to make sure it is complete into this top groove before finishing job.

I know what I need to do now to fix my Mansfield toilet but I am unsure as to how to get that gasket out so that I am sure I buy the right one. Do I just pull on that central pillar. I would hate to break something in the process and make the job even more difficult.

Amazing - same issue with my Mansfield 160. 8 year old. Over the past month, it kept getting harder and harder to flush. Now we have to lift the lid and pull hard on the valve. Too much suction is right. Even after I shut off the water - no water in the tank - it is impossible to flush. I'll try to pick up a new seal today.

When the lever is hard to activate it is generally the flushvalve seal that needs replaced so changing that should have fixed that part of the problem. You can get one from Lowes or Home Depot. If you contact the Mansfield Plumbing Company directly, they will send it directly to you from Ohio. You may contact them through email: techsupport@mansfieldplumbing.com. I hope that helps!
