how can i fix my backhoe?

Why did it run out of oil?
What type of backhoe is it?
The pump may have been damaged if it ran completely out.

Is the hydraulic oil reaching the pump? Some systems need to be bled to get rid of trapped air. May also be worth changing the hydraulic oil filter as I doubt if heavy gear oil will pass through it.
Try loosening the pump feed pipe to make sure oil feed is there, as gear pumps don't pump air very well.
