Abs service light stays on ?

I have a 1999 renault laguna 1.8 sport(16v) and have recently replaced the drivers side wheel bearing as well as fitting new brakes all round,as far as I know the bearing was the correct one but since assembling the wheel the abs light stays on.There was no cable damage either.

Can someone help me out,please

The ABS sensing has two components at each wheel, (1) is a gapped ring around the rear of the hub, and (2) is a sensor on a wire that picks up the gap in the ring.

When you did the bearing you needed to ensure that: (1) the gapped ring was present and correctly fitted, (2) the ABS sensor is fully slid into the sleeve it fits into (rear of the hub), (3) the wire is un-damaged.

When the ECU detects a fault it often clears if rectified after a short trip (1 mile, 2 mins), if not you will need a dealer reset via the ODB2 port ( behind the pull-out ash-tray), free software and ODB2 cables don't work for renault as they can't access the ABS part of the renault ECU (yet?).

Best bet is let your renault dealer plug into the diagnostics and read any error code, that will diag the problem and you can discuss fix and costs. If no error codes the dealer can reset the ABS lamp and ECU to clear the fault. Typical charge for a read/reset is anything around £50.

proably just a wire came loose at one of the wheels but while abs lite is on the abs sytem is disabled and you have regular braking sytem .......
