My interior door slammed shut jamming the mechanism fast?

My interior door slammed shut jamming the mechanism fast. now the door won't open. I have tried removing the handle but to no avail. short of damaging the door is there anything else
i could try?

Try loosening the 4 handle screws. If the whole thing is tight, this may just give you the play you need to open door.
