Mend Wont Start Warning Light Engine

how to get car started?

my car will not fire.there is a symbol of an engine with a lightening flash through it, flashing on the dash.what does this mean.

Non-start with light flashing while engine is cranking is usually an immobiliser problem but, as Nigel says, we need more info.

Without the make & model of the car, in general it means the engine fuel injection computer has detected a fault, and if it will not allow the engine to start it must be a serious fault, the only way to find out is to get the car connected to a diagnostic code reader, doesn't have to be the dealership as most good independant garages will have the kit to do this and will be a lot cheaper than the dealership!!
