electrical gremlin renault megane 1999 T MK1?

Right then, just purchased a renault megane with faults, which are, door mirrors don't work, clock (multi function display) doesn't work, radio dead, speedometer not working. the cigar lighter does work.
Is there a common wire I should be concentrating on?
The radio had a live jumper attached to the case, which would account for it popping fuses.
There were a load more probs but a weekend with an avo has cured them for the time being.

I have problems with the rear wiper is not working and got another motor fix it and still the same and also fix second hand Wiper switch and it still the same and what is cause it.. I have been checked the fuses seem okay, below the steering wheel. Do they have relay fuse where under the bonnet and which one it is?
It is Renault Megane 1998 (R) 1998

Thanks for that Nigel, I assumed by "kick panel", you meant the plastic bit where the bonnet release lever is! couldn't figure out how to get it off, so took the centre console out instead and found a nice fat earth cable (below and to the left of the ash-tray), is this the cable you are refering to? Somebody on Parkers website had the exact same fault, refered vaguely to a module that self destructs when you use the cigar lighter!!! Can't find any mention of what he/she is on about in the haynes manual. The earth I found is perfectly serviceable by the way.

Hi, they do all have one thing in common!! earth point 5 located behind the kick panel on drivers side.
