This worked on a Lexmark X3400 Series Printer and should for most others.
Unplug Printer for 30 seconds
Check USB connections are secure
Plug the power core back into the Printer
Hold down "Power and the Start" button until you see "MFG Menu Enabled"
Press the "Mode" button 3 times then you will see "LCD Button Test"
Press the "Up Arrow" 2 times "Single Test Page"
Did it print? If not, then the printer is defective return to store, buy an Epson.
More to Check....
Goto Start, Control panel, Printers
Make sure your printer is selected as default. If not change it by right clicking on printer and select Make default printer.
Right click on your default printer and goto properties. (If you are running the VISTA OPERATING SYSTEM right click on default printer, Run As Administrator, Properties)
Goto the ports tab.
Check that Enable Bidirectional Support is CHECKED
Check that your printer port is correct. EXAMPLE: usb or lpt
Is your printer installed properly...correct drivers?

Lets Check if everything is installed....Anything with ! ? X means something is not installed properly and should be corrected.
Right click "My Computer" goto properties, hardware tab, device manager
Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers is
USB Printer Support installed
Last but not least Check the "READY" Status of you printer.
Goto Start, Programs, Lexmark XXXX Series, Lexmark Solution Center
Does it say Printer Status Ready....if not, make sure you have the proper drivers and reinstall.
Goto Maintainence, Print Test Page.
Well I hope that works for someone as it did for me. I have not been able to fix this for 2 months. If you cant get this to work go here and have them help you.
Find your printer and select "GET SUPPORT"
