How do I change the belt on a hotpoint tumble dryer?

The belt on my hotpoint aquarius reversomatic dryer plus TL 21 needs replacing. But I can't find out how I can remove the front to do this. I took the back off and the front is contained seperately, so I can't reach to do it. I already have the belt and don't want to pay for someone to basically show me how to take it off, I'm sure there's a catch on the front but I can't find it. I hope someone can help me, I'm getting fed up of nappies on the radiators.

We followed Destruxtons advice but I made him put tubigrip on his arms so no injuries. Done in 45 minutes :) Thanks a lot

I have just changed the belt on my Hotpoint Aquarius VTD00P Spin Dryer. Remove the top and the side where the motor is, remove the broken belt. Undo the split pin from the drum spindle, easy. Now the fun starts pull the back just enough to release the drum and slip the new belt in.
This is part number 000145707. You then realise the new belt only just goes round the drum and will not reach the spindle of the motor, think you have the wrong belt no its the right one. It has to be stetched I used the old belt without any luck so I put it on the spindle of the motor and levered it on the drum as you do a bicycle innertube by now the drum was covered in blood from three cuts caused by the razor sharp edges of the machine. However it will go on. I then relocated the drum spindle into the back of the machine replacing the split pin, replaced the side and the top and it worked although I do have one washer and two screws over.

Great advice Destruxon (jan 06) followed to letter and had it done in less than an hour, take advantage whilst the machine is in bits and vacuum it out, big culprit of house fires are fluffy driers....

The way i did this was to remove the top as explained above then back a small way so that the drum slips out of the front part and the slip the belt over drum and then replace the back relocating the vent tube in to its correct position as you go.Next turn the machine upside down an remove the small front plate and the side and front screws of the bottom plate so that it can be wedged up a little to improve access to the motor and belt tensioners.Next pull the tensioners to one side and force belt on to motor shaft and one tension wheel and pluu other tension pulley so as to slip over belt. Turn drum to ensure belt is properly on motor pulley and alined on drum the do power check if ok reassemble botton and front plate. Job done.

Dont electricute yourself! Dont cut yourself on the sharp edges! This is for an old machine model number 9318 (label at the back)Take the small plate off the bottom front. Take the control knob off the front and undo the inside screws. Take the machine top off (two screws at the back )then slide back not forwards. Lift up the plastic front cover and have a peep inside. Notice the three plastic lugs with metal on. bash the two left ones forward with a lump hammer from inside the machine. leave the middle one. Go to the front and slacken the three screws that are captive so do not remove. Slide down the front a little with the machine on its back. The drum pops out of the centre. Carefully put the belt over the drum. hook it over the drive spindle which is ribbed to match the belt, and position the tensioners, rotate the drum to centralise (use recess). Put back together critical part is rotation of the drum so check for snags before starting.

Yes, you do not need to remove the front. The way that I did this job was to remove the plate at the bottom on the front of the machine, move the front which is now loose, away from the drum to get the belt on. The really hard bit was to get the belt on to the motor spindle. You do this by firstly putting the belt onto the spindle then pulling the pretentioners apart and lining up the belt through the gap at the bottom of the machine. The whole job took me 2 hrs. 1 hr disassembling the machine and then 1 hr to fit the new belt. You will need strong hands and slim arms. I am now covered in cuts on my forearms!

hi the text way is to remove the front ! NOT , the easiest way is to remove the small back cover first, then remove the impeller off of the motor stem, then remove at the bottom right the vent tube, then remove the rest of the screws on the outside of the back cover, u should then be able to slowly remove the back complete with the drum, it will only come away just enough to get the belt over the drum. DONT try to take it completely off as the motor wires are still connected internally.once u have the belt on the drum put all the rear covers etc back together making sure the drum is still free to turn :). then before replacing the vent tube attach the belt back onto the motor making sure the belt sits between the tensioner rollers ok. spin the drum a couple of times to line the belt up then fire the dryer back up! Voila a lot easier than removing the front trust me i got the t-shirt lol
