fix drive shaft?

Sounds like the flexible drive shaft may be broken. If you remove the engine from the shaft and pull the drive shaft out both ends are squared. I have a broken piece stuck in the shaft of mine. Damn if I can get it out as the shaft is peened. Thinking of drilling up the center where the bolt goes and pushing. Can anyone provide the method to extract the broken piece
