what checks can do to see if my cars altanator is working?

you can check at battery with a volt meter while car is running should show over 13.7 volts
If a alternetor is cherging you can hold a screwdriver near the back of it and it will act like a magnet and pull it towards it ..yea it works ....
on some cars while the car is running you can disconnect the battery and car will keep running but if alt is bad it will shut off .......
