How to remove rear wiper ARM from Vauxhall Zafira?

Someone broke off the wiper arm. I have removed the nut holding the broken arm, However cannot remove the arm from shaft.Have tried pulling it but will not budge. Suggestions please?

Thanks.

Same problem. Even the puller won't remove it. Decided to soak in WD40 and leave the puller on. Will look again in the morning and if that doesn't work the junior hacksaw will be coming out. When I put the new one on I will grease it.

I struggled for ages with the aluminium washer/sleeve, couldn't get it to budge and was starting to think it was actually part of the motor spindle and I had got the wrong replacement wiper arm because it wouldn't fit. Then I read the post from Collie re using a junior hacksaw and had the thing off and new arm fitted in 5 minutes. Great help. Thanks loads.

Ive just removed one and replaced it with a new one I bought off ebay. I removed the plastic arm and fittings which left me with a knurled washer stuck on the metal motor fitting. I very carefully used a junior hacksaw and cut through this washer , when you do this youve got to make sure you dont damage the motor arm or the threads that are on it. I then got a screwdriver and hammer and gently tapped it a few times and it opened up a fraction which was enough for me to remove it.

yes same here. i am not sure but can you buy the plastic bit that you screw onto the motor itself?.if so this will make life so much easier.without all the stress of grinding or pulling at it.i will find out and post reply on this site to let you all know.

For the Love of God, I hate my Zafira, I going to attempt this tonight in the snow and ice. I've going to throw the car into a vat of DW40 if that what it takes. Thanks for the help

Hi the only way to remove the wiper arm in the correct manor is to use a small pully puller from a tool shop.

Yep, same prob and WD40 didn't do it but a dremel cutter did, just be careful. Once you're thru the plastic insert a large screwdriver into the cut and twist, the arm should peel off leaving the aluminium ring. Repeat the process on this. The splines on the shaft make it difficult to remove, I even broke a clamp trying to use it like a puller. Definitely a design fault (or deliberate so you have to take it to a dealer?).

We have the same problem and still it wont shift. Worse car we have ever bought. Will never buy a vauxhall again. This should be a 2 minute job.

Hi, They are prone to seize on. So I would suggest you soak it with wd40. Also there is an extraction tool for them available. but other then that it will have to be a pair of mole grips, or I have grinded down the arm, as you need a new one, but make sure you dont go to far and grind the shaft with the splines on. Hope this helps.
