How do I fill a hole in a plasterboard wall the size of my fist?

How do I fill a hole in a plasterboard wall the size of my fist.?

Try attaching some wood, like a 1x2, behind the hole. First using a drywall saw make the hole a regular shape. Just cut the piece of wood slightly larger than the hole and screw through the drywall on either side of the hole into the piece of wood. This will provide the support for your patch. Now measure the hole and cut a piece of drywall that size. Screw the patch in place to the 1x2, tape and apply compound.

It depends what's behind it.....you can fill the gap with spray foam - once its cured it takes repair plaster nicely. If there is absolutely nothing behind the hole, then cut a plywood patch that will just fit through the hole, then fix it in place with either No Nails adhesive or a couple of screws - just enough to allow the new plaster to bond to. If you shove a large wood screw into the centre of your ply patch, you'll be able to hold it in place until the glue or screws get secured.
