Hi mate, i can't solve your problem but i can tell you that the alternator on my (1997 vectra auto 2.0 cdx 16v automatic) car went kerputt so i had it reconditioned and refitted but now because it was a fault with electrical component/electric system in car , the car is apparently still reading that there is a fault and needs an auto electrician to look at it and reset it. I have no clue how to reset the electric system but i was reading a thread on www.cavweb.co.uk or com and one vauxhall owner advised me to get the two leads from the battery and disconnect them then touch both positive and negative wires together. This is supposed to reset the system but i think this is only for the cdx model as it has a computer deck thingy on board. I haven't tried it myself, i'd ratehr have a car that goes with dash lights flashing than a blown up car outside my house. Good luck, when i get my problem sorted i will let you know as it may be of help to you.
