04 renault scenic dash?

I have the same problem but renault ireland tell me, after heap of crap about how much they care about their customers, that their act of good will by helping out with the costs of this known fault ONLY applies to cars 10years old or younger!!!!!!

Just to let you know that I have a similar problems with my Scenic dash - intermittent failures then total blank.My local Renault garage here in France has quoted me €550 for repair and €1125 for a new unit.

Besides a few problems along the way our Scenic is a comfortable car and we don't want the expense of changing it just yet.
My wife had purchased a replacement dash panel from Renault just over a year ago but this stopped working too.
After complaining and getting no response the senior manager on the local service desk gave me some good advice. he gave me a contact for ICS a company that sort the problem with these and give a very long guarantee with there service, had to come here before I found their correct number, another bit of useful information is the direct number for their after hours service is 07599159222 I think it was Laim I spoke to, very helpful and knew the problem well.

my scenic had a new display and it is common so renault was doing 100 pound for the display and fitting not sure if still doing it but worth a try hope it helps

I just gave my dash a thump on the top whilst the engine was running. The dash is now displaying as,normal. See you tube clip. That's where I learned about the quick fix. Obviously at your risk.

Just an update, have had my Scenic display back and working fine for almost three weeks now. There are a few firms offering repairs but I used ICS as they have an after hours support service & came highly recommended. The helpful chap I spoke with was called Ian on 02871 301023 Very fast turn around - would highly recommend these guy’s.

When I’d explained that someone else had a go at fixing it before they were a little reluctant to offer their full warranty without first seeing the panel but all was fine in the end.
One thing, you have to send a photocopy of your MOT before they restore your mileage, I’d forgot to do this & had to email them a copy of it.

I'm not sure if that comment was aimed at me Simon, but I'm not charging anything at all, I know it's hard to believe.
I just know what it's like to have car problems and family pressures in our current economic climate.
I'm not a chav, and do actually drive a scenic..

If anybody needs any help with this fix I can help, for free as my previous post outlines.
You can still send your whole unit away to get fixed for £90 with registered companies, but that will still be a couple of days without a car and poss mileage alteration.
Trust your gut and believe that the world can still be a good place!

A cautionary tale, after my much loved Scenic let me down with the dash behaving like a mobile disco on the journey home from the match last week I made contact with the local dealer who sold it to me. He gave me the number of a lad whom I called to have it fixed, went to meet him and sure enough after fumbling around for an hour and £80’s he seemed to get the dash working, Only three days later in the morning rush hour the dash began to do the same as before only this time accompanied by a burning smell, I called the chap who worked at it and he said I’d either have it sent away for repair or I’d have to get another dash as this sometimes happens, this time not only did he have the audacity to refuse a full refund while making good use of the ‘F’ word but he also offered to lower my mileage next time for an extra £50’s. or mileage correction as he put it! I feel like a fool & I should have known better not to deal with a chav, especially one who drives a flash motor. Decided to have it sent off for repair this time & pay by visa, at least this way I have some protection.

New dash fitted but Renault lost our odometer milage record - but thanks to this site and Grahame at ICS Repaires on 02871 301023 i was able to find a solution with 5 year unlimited milage warranty and we even get a refund from renault!
After several conversations with customer services. & when I told them about finding a company that could repair my dashboard they explained that many of these repairs fail again.
However, after mentioning and passing on the details of the company that give a 5year guarantee (ICS 02871 301023) they eventually admitted that they knew of this option. Only refunded the difference and didn't apologise for my troubble.
Wish I'd known about this earlier.

Alan, not so sure about that Last thing i got repaired that way was a camera. The seller had !00% feed back too including mine. It broke four months later, even when i eventually tracked down the seller they did not honor the guarantee. Also i found a company in Rochester and when i mentioned cartronix they said they know that name for all the wrong reasons!

Stuff Renault there are better solutions.
Just to let everyone know that ICS repaired ours with a 5 year guarantee plus we didn’t have to loose our mileage like you do when a new panel is fitted, they also fixed our electric window control module with a very fast turn around - ICS 02871 301023 - They have an after hours number 07599 159222, The display panel just pop's out, but the window module took some time to remove!

I've been having this problem over the last year or so with my 1999 Renault Scenic - all the main gauges go to zero, but lights and radio work. Replacing the fuse restores order until the next time - sometimes there are months between episodes, other times just days. Really frustrating! I'd be interested to know whether other older model owners have experienced this.

Hi all this is the second time our panel has gone also. if your looking for a solution with warranty it looks like ECU testing 01773 535683 and ICS 02871 301023 give long warranties.

Ian and Leslie are on the money on this one. I recently tried in car systems. Admittedly nervous about posting a computer to northern Ireland but got the panel back packaged like a component from the pentagon and fully repaired in a day! £135 plus £8.65 postage. Superb!

i have a scenic 05 reg and the dash has gone blank on me this morning. I contacted my local dealer and was told to bring it in and they will fix the problem was told they need to have a look at the unit before they can say the price to fix. depending on the fault it will either be a free replacement and fitted free or a total of £100 fully fitted vat etc as it is a common problem. Although not happy its gone and i might have to pay £100 to fix im glad Renault are honest enought to say yeah its a common fault and we will fix it. aving read some causes on the net it can cost around £500 to fix. Im not a Renault fan and hate the main dealers but on this occation well done.

I have recently also had this problem. My dash flickered for about a week, then went completely blank. I contacted my local renault service centre and have now had it replaced for £100. Renault know there is a problem with any 2004-2005 instrument panels and so foot the rest of the bill to replace. It came back with 0 miles on the clock, but they also sent a letter confirming the last recorded mileage from my last MOT, and that it has been reset due to a genuine error. This should suffice for any further potential buyers when I sell it on in years to come. Very satisfied with the Renault service.

Sent mine to BBA Reman for repair but has subsequently developed a 2nd fault which they will repair under 2-year warranty. Anybody know how to remove the panel? I'd like to do it myself this time as the garage charged £40 to remove /replace it 1st time round. Also had driver's window pack up, an expensive fault. Not impressed with Renault service.

Mine packed up, Renault Wakefield changed in 1.5hrs and kept the original mileage in it for £100 I assume this has a 3year warranty. They wouldn't let me keep the old one though unless I paid £600 for a normal replaced part.

I too had this problem, thanks to a recent post i used www.cartronix.co.uk and for £140 my dash was fixed and the mileage remained the same, renault told me if they fit a new one it would come back with zero miles, try explaining that when you come to sell it . Very helpfull 2 day turn around and a 2 year guarantee.

Try In Car Systems 02871 301023 They only adjust mileage when accompanied with an MOT, had to come here looking for their number to get a copy of the receipt we lost, they repaired my boss's last year and were really helpful, with instructions the display bit just clips out and you post it to them. At least they repair it properly and you have your mileage.

Was very upset to find that renault kept my car for a full day and gave it back with no mileage record.
Apparently this is what they are doing with all customers. The service manager told me that he was sorry but they don't have the facility to fix this. There are loads of dodge places advertising so called 'mileage correction' didn't fancy lining the pockets of criminals.

If you contact a Renault dealer they will fit you a new one as renualt have admitted that there is a fault with these units. They may charge you a fitting few although this will only be around £100 o is much less than the other options. This will happen even if you are over the three year warrenty period.

Thank you Mr Austin if it wasn't for you i would have went that path Renault. I intend to sell my scenic next year, so having it sorted for 150 pounds'without loosing my mileage' actually saved me money. It took ten minutes to pop the panel out with the simple directions In Car Systems mailed to me. Much easier than it first looked!
Getting Renault to replace it with one with no mileage would have cost me more, even if they did agree to drop the charge for the part to 100 pounds

Its ashame watchdog missed the point on how Renault supply a panel with zero miles on the clock, not good if your attempt to sell it anytime soon.
Eventually got through on the number to someone in a temporary call centre which was obviously over run only to then hear them say that the cost may vary. They recommend that i pay the recovery to take my Scenic to a dealer as opposed to driving it.

I've heard that even the latest release of the Renault dashboards are failing & sometimes within their warranty period. Problem not fixed just shifted to get the media of their back.

The option of spending £150 more and getting it repaired with a three year no quibble warranty, and your mileage intact! looks much better.
For anyone interested in doing the same here are the details of a company who have been sorting these things for over three years now. In Car Systems on 02871 301023 or Ian & Graham on 07599 159222

The problem is due to the fact that some of the componants get hot (no heat sinks) and this allows dry joints to form (expansion / contraction due to heat & with the vibrations in a car hey presto). In addition the electronic components don't have legs (pins) to allow them to be soldered through the circuit board so not as mechanicaly robust. It is possable to re-solder the componants however I would only recomend this if you have a good level of experiance in fine solder work, some of the componants are very very small and not having legs means they will move if you are not VERY VERY careful. It's not 100% fix as the problem can re-appear (I have carried out solder repair three times now) however if you want to avoid the cost of sending away! I will be trying the services of a specialist soon as our 42k Scenic is now showing 108k!!! And yes I have repaired three of the windows and the heater fan. Renault say all these faults are uncommon & want money just to look but we all know different. First & LAST Renault.

Had mine destroyed by cluster repairs uk after they had it for 2 weeks! Sent it out as repaired, failed within 5 mins of use. Sent it back to them , further 10 days, said they could not gaurantee the repair and gave me a full refund. However I got it back, now only the right side of the unit works!!! TBH their customer service was diabolical. I complained that they had broken the unit, was told 6 weeks ago they would provide me with a working replacement at trade price £189 + VAT
Heard nothing from them since, even after numerous calls. STAY WELL CLEAR OF THESE COWBOYS!!!!!

This is a common problem but if you do have to go to renault insist they put on your mileage as it seems that they don't which then in turn effects the value of your motor. Had this problem recently with ours but had it fixed privately (cov) for a fraction of what renault charge AND they were able to re-program the mileage.

Renault say this a rare fault but there a hundreds of people reporting this and as a dash is not a wear and tear item I suggest that everyone report this to watchdog.

1 had same problems with a 53 plate, read some of the answers posted, renault wanted £88 + just to look at the dash, then 2 hrs labour to take it out.
i can only suggest you try this man, he guides you through the removal and replacement of the dash, repaired and warranty. £8.25 to send and £158.25 for repair & p&p return, works perfect now. GIVE THEM A CALL!

£150 + £8.25 for UK next day postage, Renault Megane or Scenic digital dash clocks repaired for a fraction of the £620 Renault quoted me! With a longer warranty also!
If you've also been messed about by renault over your faulty dashboard, then give these guys a call 07599 159222 (direct line to tech) I think his name was Ian.
Told him how i'd been treated by Renault & got his permission to give out his personal number, .
He said they can usual have dashboards for Megane or Scenic's, back with the customer within 48Hrs after receiving them. I posted mine on a Monday & had it back repaired on the Wednesday!
I was well impressed as with the personal service, & if i have any problems, i have a direct contact to people who seem to know what their talking about. As opposed to the unhelpful people at Renault customer services.

In fact they were very helpful, i even got to speak to the engineer who actually repaired my instrument cluster.. He gave me instructions on how to remove my Instrument panel from the dash, took me around 10 minutes & about 15 to refit it. Renault said they would be charging me 2hrs labour for this.

So for anyone at Renault reading this. Thanks for nothing! I'll be letting everyone know!

I have same problem with 2005 Grand Scenic. I opened display, and found, that switching regulator on the display main board has burned some its components. Heat was painting the card braun. It can probably repaired chanhin those components (transistor, resistor and mos-fet).

i have a 53 plate scenic. exactly the same problem. clock started resetting now goes of & on. if you give the dash a hit it will come back on. what a way to cary on. now the millage has changed by 25000miles. renault dont want to know even though this is a common fault. renault should recall these cars as this is a dangerous thing. im gona send something to watchdog to see what they say.

Get a refurbished unit from a breakers yard. I got one for £85 which saved around £300. Works fine apart from radio and cd player. Still have to get it configured. Not sure how to go about that.

hi there if the panel is totaly blank you are looking at buying anew panel and they are not cheap , and it will need to be configured to the vehicle, so you might need to go to the main renault dealer for this to be done.
