Hi there, I have a 16v 1.6 sport petrol renault Laguna. The timing belt has gone and apparently everything is pretty chewed up. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to replace it with a different spec engine? ie an 8v 1.6 or 1.8 or diesel ?

theroretically possible but the practical disadvantages usually make it more expensive .the wireing harness is diferent for one thing not to mention that the car will then be modified as far as insurance companys are concerned,may be dificult or impossible to insure.
