How do I replace the gas struts on the boot lid of my Renault Megane CC?

Yep straight forward, both of mine failed (megane oasis 55 plate) Renault dealer quoted a ridiculous price £100 each!!! Purchased 2 off eBay £12!! (genuine parts too!) googled method and completed task in 5 mins, ALWAYS GOOGLE BEFORE FORKING OUT EXCESSIVE PRICES.

Thanks Boots3864 - your answer gave me the confidence to try it myself. I bought the struts from SGS.co.uk - they knew which to supply, have done it many times. Struts cost £45 the pair inc delivery. Easy to fit - simply prise up clips on strut cap, and pull off. New strut has a circlip - take off, click new strut into place and insert circlip. 5 minute job ! Renault dealer wanted £155 per strut to fit.

I have a Renault Megane CC 05 plate and one of my struts failed last week!
Renault quoted £68.00......FOR 1!!!!!
I purchased one for a 02 model but not from a renault dealer for £22.00
It was about 1-2 Inches shorter so the boot does not open as wide,but i'm happy with that..
It took me about 5 minutes to replace.. you do not have to go to a dealer..a little clip hold them on. all you need is a small screwdriver to lift the clip up on each end of the struts and it pulls off.
To put them on you just push the struts on...simple..
