Along w/prior checks, when engines running w/ pwr steering,avoid holding wheel at full lock for but a FEW seconds max. Otherwise, you can over-heat the p.s. fluid and `fry` the pump.

if the car is power steering then check the power steering fluid if that is ok try and get the front end up on axle stands let the engine run and get some one to left lock then right lock to see if the wheels are catching on any thing if there is no noice when doing this check the cv joints and bushes.
