Mend Miele G646 Sc Plus Dishwasher

how can i fix my miele G646 sc plus dishwasher?

Miele G646 dishwasher. This dishwasher has a ventilation vent on the front panel. During the drying cycle the dishwasher is now making "choking" noises through ventilation vent and when complete and open door water pours out of the ventilation vent. This machine is about 5 years old.

That didn't fix it so this time I took all the screws off, detached and cleaned the pipe, reattached the bottom end, flushed it through and I think the job's a good 'un.

Taking off the top few screws so that the front panel alone falls off worked for me with my 13-year-old G975 SC. Didn't attack the whole tube behind the panel but am now doing a test wash to see if it's fixed (having taken away all the gunk at the top and tried flushing through from up there). Thanks everyone - what a great new year's day!

Great help to solve the puddle problem. Many thanks to all. The condensation outlet in to the rinse-aid dispenser was solid gunk.
The instructions for the G646 etc here still apply to the Miele G975 SC.

I heard a loud bang in the dishwasher door and now the door isn't balanced right. Have the spring broken or come loose? and how to fix?

Brilliant all of you. Our problem solved. Blew through the tube after washing it to remove rest of gunge and blew through rinse aid end. Siphoning water through the rinse aid end finished the job. My machine now looks as new as it was 13 years ago, and still working well, without any 'choking'!

Does anyone know if these solutions for gunge in the ventilation pipe etc would work for a Miele G674 dishwasher ?

I fixed my Miele g645sc plus with this information.

In addition I cleaned out the fan outlet as well by removing the upper part of the door by taking out the six screws. Then the fan grill which just pulls out.
I then cut the bottom off a plastic bottle and used it as a funnel to pour hot soapy water back through the fan grill opening and caught the gunge which came out through the outlet in a jug.

A bit long winded but it cleared the fan.

Water was coming from the vent on my G645 SC machine, leaving a puddle everytime I opend the door. You only have to undo the 4 x screws on the main door covering, and NOT the 6 x screws that hold the upper switch panel (although you could loosen them).
Once removed remove pull off (carefully) the rubber drain tube that connects the vent assembly and the soap/rinse aid dispenser, and rinse through with plenty of clean soapy water. Mine was blocked with a horrible mucus type matter which came out easily. Once completely clear, connect the tube to the lower end and blow hard through the other end to remove matter within the rinse aid dispenser. Mine was ejected through the small hole under the rinse aid cover that I had never even noticed before. Re-assemble and use happily for another few years, and treat yourself to something nice, because you've save a hundred pound call-out charge!!!

Same Fix for the G645 SCI Plus.

You will however require a T20 Screwdriver or bit in order to first remove the kitchen door from the front of the machine. I gently eased the fan end of the pipe off and then lower end. Cleaned the pipe and finished by blowing air from an airline through to get last remaining gunge out of the pipe. By re-connecting lower end first you can then flush the pipe and it's retuen point in the rinse-aid draw through with hot water and a fine brush to clear and trapped debris from around the exit point.

My G646 SC had the same problems as others listed here e.g. water (about half a cup) coming out of the fan vent when the door was opened to empty the dishwasher, and the fan was becoming noisy.
The dishwasher was bought in 1999 and this was the first problem I have had with it (April 2012), the appliance has been well used and is usually on once a day to keep pace with a family of 5.
Having read the comments on here I decided to have a go and fix the problem myself. Here is what I did:-

1. Disconnected the dishwasher fom the electric supply by unplugging it.
2. Removed the 'philips' screws holding the inner stainless steel door lining.Take care because the lower door may come away so support it as you remove the screws.
Once the lining is removed you can see the pipe that takes the condensate from the fan to a small drainage hole beside the detergent dispenser. On my model there is plastic part covering this so I can't actually see the hole on the inside of the dishwasher.
3. Carefully remove the pipe from the fan end first. I found this end the easiest to disconnect. Be careful not to stretch the end of the pipe. Then remove the lower end of the pipe to remove it. This was a little tricky as I did'nt want to force it off. It did come off with a little patience. My pipe was completely blocked with 13 years of grease and small food particles.
4. Wash the pipe in a bucket or sink in hot water and detergent (fairy liquid) to clear the grease etc.
5 Reattach the lower end of the pipe i.e. not the end beside the fan.
6 Without stretching the pipe attach a small funnel to the free end of the pipe and slowly pour in some hot water. This will flush away any build up of grease / food that maybe blocking the drainage hole.
7 Re-connect the pipe to the fan connection.
8 Re- fix the door. I needed an extra pair of hands to support the lower part of the door.
9 Plug in the dishwasher and switch it on.
It's been 3 weeks since I flushed my pipe, I have no water coming out of the fan vent when the door is opened and the fan now runs very quietly.
I'm hoping for another 13 years out of my dishwasher!!
I hope this helps as I found earlier advice on this site very helpful.

I have cleaned the drain tube, as described in the other answers, several times successfully, but found that eventually it has no effect - water still comes out of the vent. My wife came up with the solution:

First clean the tube as described in the other answers.

Reconnect the bottom of the drain tube. Open the flap on the salt dispenser. Take an empty Jif lemon and fill with water, attach it to the top of the drain tube (the end nearest the fan) - take care not to overstretch the mouth of the tube. Then give an almighty squeeze on the Jif plastic bulb. This forces water through the box at the bottom end of the tube and expels any collected gunk out of a small hole in the salt dispenser.

Thanks for this forum.

I fixed my Miele dishwasher as per answers given. Access the door panels by removing screws in inner door frame- just inside the lip of the inner door.

You'll need to get a Tex bit to take out the screws in the door panel. Bought a set from local hardware for $15 (Aussie). Dont need to take door off - but a helper can assist with holding door when you have to replace the door panel.

Turn power off.

Door panels come off in 2 bits- upper and lower. You just need to remove the lower panel. I think it was 4 screws in all. Use a cordless drill with your tex bit and you'll need an extension as the screws are difficult to get at.

Take off the black tube which runs in to the ventilator and wash out with hot water. Its probably full of gunk.

Replace tube and door panel , turn power back on and hey presto- fixed.

Thank you for the advice on how to fix the problem of water spillage from the vent when opening the door after a wash. I also found that there was a partial blockage in the outlet of the fan unit and also at the bottom end of the tube where it joins the connection through to the inside of the door.

I had the same problem of a gurgling vent and water coming out when the door was opened. As the machine is almost 7 years old I thought it was giving up on me but I removed the lower door took out the rubber tube as per your suggestion, rinsed it and out fell a piece of sweet corn. Put it all back together again and it works as well as ever, hopefully for another 7 years.

miele g646 sc dishwasher. Basically, it begins cycle and then at the point when presumably water is injected it just dies. I have cleaned everything that can be removed and cleaned as per the manual. Because the manual recommends altering the inflow by pressing the start and on/off switch together I have tried that in the hope that it was low pressure that was the problem, with no result. At the moment it is sitting here with the green light on, the red salt light on (filled up) and nothing happening. Help please

Pete's diagnosis is correct but his cure is more drastic than necessary. To expose the rubber tube that drains the ventilating fan back into the dishwasher and gets blocked with gunge, you need only undo the four screws that secure the white lower part of the outside of the door. There is no need to try to remove the stainless steel inner covering. The rubber tube is a push fit at either end and is easily removed, cleaned, and replaced.

Hi Tracey
I had the same problem on my Miele Dishwasher. Basically the outlet built into the door gets gummed up. You can access it by undoing the screws around the edge of the inside of the door. This will allow you to take off the inner stainless steel cover and there will be the tubes ect for the front vent. Take them off and you will find them blocked with gunge. Give them a jollly good clean so it allows the consensation to drain back into the machine . You will also find the fan in there aswell. Clean all around that as well if it's dirty. Put it all back together and no more gurgling or water on the floor when the doors opened. Hope this helps.
