How do I fix a broken overflow pipe?

No problems with this one - just buy an in line plastic connector and push it onto the old pipe if there's room - this will allow you to connect new pipe and route it as you wish.....if there isn't, just chisel a small amount of brickwork away so you can push it on. It can be a good idea if you can get someone to be inside the loft space to ease the strain on the pipe and to make sure any other joints don't part.
