If You only want to increase the speed of operation of software i suggest you start with this video it will walk you through it painlessly If you want to increase the cpu speed or memory there are a plethora of websites to do this www.metacafe.com/watch/869977/50_computer_speed_in... hope this helps.

Defragment your hard disk and if you have Windows XP SP2 or SP3 ensure that you have at least 512MBytes of RAM.
