Hi, Why is my overflow pipe leaking?

I live in a Semi detatched there is a large amount of water coming out of an overflow pipe at the back of the house, because there are two pipes i'm not sure if its mine or the neighbours, what I can say is the water is coming out of the 1st pipe nearest to the neighbour.

Hi there

My overflow pipe leaks - I've replaced the valve, ballcock but no joy.

I got a builder to have a look and he tells me its connected to the central heating and the cylinder needs replacing - he's quoted me £400 to replace the pipes and insert the cylinder.

Firstly does this sound correct?? If so is he ripping me off??

Hello, we have come across this answer as this is the exact same problem we are having and suspect it is the water tank filling too high.

If this is the problem, could anyone recommend what the solution is please?

to answer this i need to know what warms your water if you have a copper tank you will have a water tank feeding it
also and i guarantee this as a plumber of twenty years wc pressure can leadc to overflowing this usually occurs in the eraly hours when mains water pressure forces into tank not being used as people are not using them this causes overflowing but as water is being used by people getting up all over the country this pressure reduses and when people open thier tanks the levels have dropped thus they think tank is okay
but its not . this is very common and most people dont understand it or realise it is possible but its 100 per cent true
how ever i need more info also if you live in a flat some times depending on layout that although coming out your wall might actually be fixed to your niebours pluming sepcially true of house flat conversions there are many flats on my rounds where tanks ar e in common attics let me know ur set up and appliances

try following the overflow pipe to see where its coming from.
if you live in a flat its possibly your neighbors fault.

have you looked inside the toilet fill tank..?? it may be filling a bit too much, if it is then theres a tiny screw about an inch long thats connected to the ballcot, (ballcot; like a ball with fairly long thin arm on it.. the screw should be at other end to the ball) it needs tightening slightly..,,(so that the tank doesn't fill as much) if this aint the case then im sorry for wasteing your time and couldn't help......
